A Message from James

I want to make it clear that I am not a career politician, nor do I aspire to be one. My sole focus is on improving our city while preserving its small-town character. I am committed to working with fellow council members and the community to address both the big challenges and the smaller issues we face. I believe in using a collective approach to achieve our shared goals. We will work together to strengthen our community. I recognize that I won't have all the answers, and I understand that difficult decisions will need to be made, but every decision I make will be with the long-term benefit of our town in mind.

About James

James is a 5th generation Yrekan, deeply rooted in the community he has called home his entire life. Having attended local schools, he embodies the tradition and values of Yreka as he raises his three children with his wife, Danielle. His commitment to the community is evident through his active participation in various local initiatives, including volunteering as a football coach, serving on the board of the YMCA, and joining as many charity golf tournaments as he can.

Professionally, James has dedicated his career to public service in Siskiyou County; serving as an officer at the Weed Police Department, a Deputy at the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office, a member of the TASK Force, and currently serving as an Investigator for the District Attorney's Office. His contributions to both community and law enforcement highlight his dedication to making Yreka a better place for all its residents.

We have far too many vacant buildings in our community. By targeting these spaces, we can support small businesses. A focused investment strategy with incentives like tax breaks or grants can ease startups' financial burdens.

Creating a resource hub for mentorship, networking, and capital access will help entrepreneurs gain skills and knowledge. Furthermore, highlighting our community's advantages—affordable real estate and a welcoming atmosphere—through marketing we can attract new businesses. Engaging potential employers in industries that fit our strengths and can further promote job creation.

By supporting local entrepreneurs and attracting new employers, we can revitalize our community, diversify our economy, and enhance residents' job opportunities, while transforming vacant buildings into thriving businesses.

Limited housing options significantly hinder potential employees from relocating here. Many qualified job candidates find themselves unable to accept job offers due to ongoing difficulties in finding suitable and affordable housing. To effectively tackle this pressing issue, we should focus our efforts on redeveloping underutilized properties and vacant lots into accessible and affordable housing options. This thoughtful strategy not only eases the burden on existing housing demand but also improves neighborhood aesthetics, creating a more attractive environment for both current and future residents. Additionally, it boosts local economic growth by attracting new residents and potential customers for local businesses. Investing in housing development clearly benefits both local businesses and employees alike. A collaborative effort among local government officials, business owners, and engaged community members is absolutely essential in addressing these housing challenges effectively and ensuring a prosperous and sustainable future for our town.

The reopening of the Ringe Pool is essential for both the community and the local schools.
